Repeat Drunk Driver Gets One Year Sentence After Crashing Into Motorcyclist

A man with a history of seven drunk driving offenses has been sentenced to prison for his eighth offense, which involved fleeing police and causing a serious accident. The incident occurred when the man, identified by the surname Li, was stopped by patrolling officers for failing to signal a turn while riding his motorcycle after consuming three bottles of beer.

Instead of complying, Li accelerated and fled, eventually driving against oncoming traffic at an intersection. He collided with a female motorcyclist, causing her significant injury. Following his apprehension, a breathalyzer test revealed a blood alcohol content of 1.05 milligrams per liter, a dangerously high level.

The Miaoli District Court found Li guilty of reckless endangerment. Judges noted his repeated disregard for public safety and the severity of his actions, including evading police and causing the collision while heavily intoxicated. He was sentenced to one year in prison and ordered to pay a fine of 30,000 New Taiwan dollars.
