Reps demand probe, relief for victims of deadly Bauchi community clash

The violent confrontation, which occurred in Lanzai and neighboring Dosho communities, claimed nine lives and displaced scores of residents.

The House notes the sad occurrence last Wednesday of a violent clash between farmers and herders in Lanzai and nearby Dosho communities that resulted in the loss of nine human lives, injuries to residents, destruction of property and the burning of approximately 50 residential huts and other means of livelihood.

Members expressed concern over the recurring nature of such conflicts across the country, warning that they threaten national security, food production, and economic growth. The House resolved to urge the Inspector-General of Police to deploy investigative and intelligence resources to identify and apprehend those responsible. The Director-General of the Department of State Services was also called upon to intensify intelligence gathering and early warning operations.

Recognizing the humanitarian crisis, the House appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency and the North-East Development Commission to provide immediate relief, including temporary shelter, food, medical assistance, and psychosocial support. The lawmakers also urged the Federal Government to support the reconstruction of destroyed homes and community facilities.
