Reroutes, road closures in Manila starting July 26 for SONA 2026

The Manila Police District (MPD) is set to implement significant traffic management measures, including road closures and rerouting, across portions of Manila starting Sunday, July 26. These preparations are in anticipation of the fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Several major thoroughfares will be inaccessible to vehicular traffic to ensure security and facilitate the event. Among the roads slated for closure are Mendiola, Liwasang Bonifacio, and Ayala Bridge. Specific sections of roads such as Magallanes Drive, Quezon Boulevard, and Lerma Street will also face southbound lane closures. The Mendiola area, including parts of C.M. Recto Avenue and Legarda Street, will be affected, as will the Ayala Bridge and parts of Ayala Boulevard. The MPD has outlined detailed rerouting schemes and alternative routes to guide motorists through the affected areas. These plans aim to minimize disruption for commuters and residents while ensuring the smooth conduct of the SONA proceedings. Drivers heading towards North-South Corridors from P. Burgos Avenue, for instance, will be directed to proceed straight to Jones Bridge. Similarly, vehicles from A. Mendoza Street intending to use the southbound lane of Quezon Boulevard will be rerouted via Fugoso Street and T. Mapua Street.
