Reservists in Chiriquí protest, demanding over $30 million in pending payments

A group of reservists from Panama's Public Force marched along the Inter-American Highway in Chiriquí province, demanding the inclusion of over $30 million in overdue payments within the 2027 General State Budget. They are appealing to the National Assembly and the Ministry of Security to address their claims.

Reyes Colón, the reservists' spokesperson in Chiriquí, emphasized the urgent need for these funds, noting that many beneficiaries have passed away while others are battling terminal illnesses. He stated that the reservists served with honor and youth, contributing to the nation, and now require the money to support themselves.

Many of them have already passed away. As we all know, we have many elderly gentlemen with terminal illnesses.

The demonstrations occurred simultaneously in Azuero, Panama, and Chiriquí, with reservists from Bocas del Toro also joining the latter. Colón expressed the group's commitment to the country, highlighting their sacrifices and current needs.

The reservists estimate the outstanding payments could exceed $30 million. They are awaiting a response from the authorities and have indicated they will remain on alert until their demands are met.
