Resident Doctors Commend Governor Sani for Prioritizing Healthcare Workers' Welfare

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has lauded Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State for his significant efforts in prioritizing the welfare of healthcare workers and enhancing healthcare delivery. NARD specifically highlighted the governor's commitment to improving the conditions for resident doctors through better pay, upgraded facilities, professional development, and enhanced working environments.

This commendation was issued in a communiqué following NARD's July National Executive Council meeting. The association observed that Governor Sani has made substantial improvements to healthcare services across Kaduna State. Beyond resident doctors, the praise extends to governors in Osun, Kaduna, Oyo, Rivers, and Plateau states for their focus on healthcare worker welfare.

The association also said that the Governor has demonstrated commitment to improving the conditions of resident doctors through better remuneration, infrastructure, manpower development and working conditions.

Governor Sani's administration has undertaken extensive renovations and upgrades of all 255 Primary Healthcare Centres in Kaduna State, bringing them to Level 2 status. Efforts have also been made to expand access to maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent healthcare services, alongside strengthening routine immunisation and disease surveillance programs. The state is also revitalizing secondary healthcare facilities, procuring modern medical equipment, and improving diagnostic capabilities.

Furthermore, the governor has prioritized the recruitment of healthcare professionals, supported workforce planning, continuous professional development, and capacity building. His administration has sustained the implementation of salary structures like CONMESS and CONHESS, and consistently funded the Medical Residency Training Fund. This demonstrates a firm commitment to nurturing future specialist physicians to bolster healthcare services in Kaduna State.
