Residents Demand Action Against Vandals at Kvaternik Square, Push for New Security Measures

Residents living around Kvaternik Square have had enough of vandals and public disorder, pushing for enhanced security measures. They cite ongoing damage to elevators and underpasses, widespread littering, and other disruptive behaviors as reasons for their demand for better oversight.

In response, the local council has supported the residents' call for improved surveillance. The Eugen Kvaternik Local Committee proposed installing more cameras to cover the entrances, exits, and interiors of the underpass, including the elevators. The Maksimir City District Council has agreed with this proposal, recognizing the need to address the "permanent devastation" of public property.

While the council acknowledges that educating citizens about protecting public property is the primary solution, they believe increased video surveillance, coupled with visible notices about its presence, will significantly reduce vandalism. The issue of malfunctioning elevators in the area has persisted, with local workers attributing the damage to vandals and intoxicated individuals frequenting the space at night. The underpass, though containing several shops, is primarily used as a shortcut by pedestrians.
