Slovenian police reveal details of siege: 'Srđan had a hostage, then gunfire erupted again'

Slovenian police have released initial details regarding the death of Croatian citizen Srđan Aleksić, who was found deceased in a house in Uršna Sela following a multi-hour search. Aleksić was a suspect in an armed robbery of a gas station in Črnomelj and was also linked to a shooting incident in Pula that left a 60-year-old man seriously injured.

The police operation concluded when special unit members stormed the house where the suspect was hiding. While it has been confirmed that Aleksić was found dead, it remains officially undetermined whether his death resulted from police action or was self-inflicted. An investigation is underway to clarify all circumstances.

Dejan Kink, head of the Novo Mesto Police Department, stated that police secured the area and approached the building, confirming the suspect was inside with a hostage. "Police officers from the special unit stormed the building, where the perpetrator was found dead," Kink said, as reported by HRT.

Meanwhile, the Croatian Ministry of the Interior issued a statement refuting claims that Srđan Aleksić was a member of Croatian special forces. Slovenian authorities are continuing their criminal investigation to establish the exact sequence of events and the cause of Aleksić's death after the police intervention.
