Residents, Stakeholders Hail Isoko South Council Chair’s Performance

Residents and stakeholders in Nigeria's Isoko South Local Government Area are hailing the developmental progress achieved under the two-year administration of Council Chair Hon. Warri Ovoke Friday. The council marked this milestone by highlighting improvements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic empowerment, with several significant projects still in progress.

Since assuming office on July 15, 2024, Ovoke Friday's administration has prioritized critical developmental needs. Completed infrastructure projects include the rehabilitation of key roads such as the Oyede-Irri Road and the Oleh-Emede-Olomoro-Otor-Iyede corridor. The council also undertook emergency repairs on the Idheze-Irri back road and constructed a culvert on Ogbemudia Road in Oleh to improve access for residents, farmers, and traders. Additionally, the official residences of the council chairman, Head of Personnel Management, and Secretary to the Local Government were renovated, and the council secretariat received upgrades, including improved security infrastructure and solar-powered electricity.

To stimulate local commerce, the council rehabilitated the Olomoro and Idheze-Irri markets, providing modern stalls and lock-up shops. Ongoing projects include the construction of a new administrative secretariat, an administrative and staff block at Enwhe Comprehensive Grammar School, and a modern police station in Enwhe to enhance local security. In education, over 18,000 exercise books were distributed to primary school pupils, alongside classroom furniture. Teacher verification exercises and school inspections were conducted to improve standards.

The health sector saw a swift response to a cholera outbreak in Ikpide-Irri, and a partnership with the Omodu Foundation provided free medical outreach services. Primary healthcare centers received medical equipment, and public enlightenment campaigns on HIV/AIDS and other communicable diseases were conducted in collaboration with the World Health Organization. For economic empowerment, the administration distributed improved cassava stems and established demonstration farms for various crops. Furthermore, ₦11 million in grants was disbursed to support small-scale businesses, aiming to boost economic activities and household incomes. The council also reported interventions in resolving communal and leadership disputes.
