Resignation and Appointment of Bishop of Kabale

Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Bishop Callist Rubaramira from his pastoral duties in the Diocese of Kabale, Uganda. Concurrently, the Holy Father has appointed Reverend Bonaventure Bosco Gubazire, a member of the Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers), as the new bishop for the Kabale diocese.

Reverend Gubazire, who until now served as the rector of the St. Martin of Tours Formation House in Ejisu, Ghana, was born in Kitumba, within the Kabale diocese, on March 3, 1974. His extensive educational and pastoral journey includes studies at St. Paul's Minor Seminary in Rushoroza, a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy and religious studies from the Philosophy Centre in Jinja, and a theology degree from the Institut Catholique in Toulouse.

Ordained a priest on August 10, 2003, Gubazire has held numerous positions since his ordination. His service includes roles as parish vicar in Mozambique, director of adult education schools, and a member of the Missionaries of Africa's council in Mozambique. He also completed formation courses in France and earned a licentiate in philosophy from the Milltown Institute of Philosophy in Dublin.

Further experience includes professorships and dean positions at formation houses in Malawi, where he also served as delegate for the Protection of Minors. He obtained a doctorate in philosophy from the University of San Carlos in Cebu, Philippines, between 2016 and 2020. More recently, he has been involved with the Friends of Missionaries of Africa in Cebu, served as rector of the Our Lady of Africa Formation House Seminary, and held academic positions in Ghana and Nigeria, including his most recent role as rector of the St. Martin of Tours Formation House.
