Resounding Departure from Karystianou's Party Amid Accusations of Undemocratic Functioning

Nikos Broutzakis, a businessman and co-owner of Axion Esti TV, has publicly announced his resignation from the "Hope for Democracy" movement, a group that has been active in recent years. Broutzakis cited concerns over the movement's internal operations and decision-making processes.

In a Facebook post, Broutzakis explained his eight-month involvement with the movement, which he initially believed could significantly alter the political landscape and foster a new, humane political culture. However, he stated that the movement's initial vision has been compromised by internal shifts, leading to arbitrary decisions, stifling of dissenting opinions, and the formation of a closed decision-making group.

Broutzakis also criticized the way departing members are treated, often being labeled as "traitors" or "paid" individuals. He asserted that his departure is a matter of principle, driven by a commitment to transparency and accountability, and that the movement's original goals remain relevant. He pledged to continue advocating for justice and democracy through Axion Esti TV.

Psychologist Maria Ioannidou, a former member of the movement's Political Council, echoed similar concerns in a separate post. She emphasized that an independent citizens' movement must operate democratically, viewing disagreement not as a problem but as a part of collective identity. Ioannidou suggested that Greek society is weary of party structures reliant on strong leadership and internal mechanisms, advocating for a model where unity allows for dissent while maintaining cohesion.
