Responding to Low-Carbon Transport Platform, Huang Kuo-chang Cycles 180km Around New Taipei for Campaign, Ending at City Hall

In a move that eschews traditional campaign tactics, Huang Kuo-chang, the Taiwan People's Party candidate for New Taipei City mayor, is embarking on an ambitious 180-kilometer cycling tour around the sprawling metropolis. This unique initiative, scheduled for April 23, is designed not only to connect with voters across the city's diverse terrain but also to serve as a powerful, real-world endorsement of his platform advocating for low-carbon transportation and a healthier lifestyle.

This Thursday (23rd), I will be doing a non-traditional street sweep. In response to my New Taipei policy proposals and to echo a low-carbon, healthy mode of transportation, I will ride a bicycle out for a street sweep.

Departing at dawn, Huang plans to pedal through New Taipei's undulating landscapes, a journey he acknowledges will be more demanding than cycling along the coast. His chosen endpoint, the New Taipei City Hall, symbolizes his aspiration to lead the city. This unconventional approach contrasts sharply with the noisy, high-volume campaign vehicles often seen during election periods, signaling Huang's desire to present a more grounded and environmentally conscious image.

Huang has personally appealed to the public for support, encouraging residents to offer a wave and a cheer as he undertakes this solitary ride. He has also enlisted the support of six Taiwan People's Party city council candidates, who will join him for segments of the ride in their respective districts, amplifying the party's presence across the region.

New Taipei has many hilly terrains, high and low, so it will be much more tiring to ride than cycling along the West Coast.
