Revamped ‘Peter Pan’ musical returns to Tel Aviv stage

The beloved Hebrew musical "Peter Pan," first enchanting audiences over 35 years ago, has made a triumphant return to the Tel Aviv stage.

The new production, which had a pre-premiere performance at the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center this week, is helmed by Hanoch Rosen. Rosen, who famously portrayed Captain Hook in the original 1988 staging, now directs the reimagined show.

This revival features a blend of familiar faces and new talent. Lee Biran takes on the iconic role of Peter Pan, with Meshi Kleinstein as Wendy. Veteran actor Sasson Gabbay reprises his original role as the villainous Captain Hook, promising a nostalgic yet fresh performance.

The ensemble cast includes notable performers such as Linoy Cohen, Tal Levin, Ofir Weil, Assaf Levi, Gilad Brown, Hanan Schwartzberg, Liam Pinto, and TimoTi Sannikov. The production promises to retain the signature sword fights that delighted audiences decades ago, now complemented by a modernized theatrical flight system for enhanced spectacle.

The original "Peter Pan" was a significant commercial success, spawning a home video release, a book, and a popular soundtrack. This updated version, running at the Cameri Theater through August, aims to capture the magic for both long-time fans and a new generation.
