‘This is Tehran’: Khamenei posters and Iran regime flags displayed at London march

London's Arbaeen Procession saw open displays of support for Iran's Islamic regime, with numerous posters of the late Ayatollah Khamenei and regime flags visible among the estimated 35,000 attendees. The annual march, held on August 9, 2026, commemorates Imam Hussain and his stand against injustice. This year's event in London, organized by Hussaini Islamic Trust UK, was reportedly the largest in its 46-year history in the country.

Among the prominent displays was a poster by the Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC) featuring Khamenei with the slogan 'Choose the right side of history.' The IHRC has been under investigation by the UK's Charity Commission since 2017 due to alleged ties to the Iranian regime. In March 2023, the watchdog issued a warning over concerns of "misconduct and/or mismanagement," though the case remains ongoing without published enforcement actions.

Footage from the procession also showed a man wearing a keffiyeh displaying images of Iran's three supreme leaders: Khomeini, Khamenei Sr., and Khamenei Jr. These pro-regime displays occurred in the context of the UK's recent National Security (State Threats) Act 2026, enacted in July. This legislation empowers the Home Secretary to designate organizations involved in state-threat activities linked to foreign powers.

Notably, on July 17, 2026, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) was officially designated under this act, making any expression of support for the IRGC a criminal offense. The presence of such overt support for the Iranian regime, particularly the IRGC, at a public event in London raises questions about the enforcement of the new legislation and the activities of groups allegedly linked to Tehran.
