Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis: 22 neglected cats rescued from apartment

Animal welfare officials in the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis district of Germany have rescued 22 cats from a squalid apartment, where the animals were found in deplorable conditions, suffering from neglect. The apartment was reportedly filled with feces and urine, and the cats were deprived of both food and water.

Among the most critical cases was a mother cat found with her five kittens, all confined together in a transport box without sustenance. All the rescued animals were subsequently transferred to animal shelters, where they are receiving necessary veterinary care. The cats exhibited clear signs of severe neglect, highlighting the urgent need for intervention.

The intervention followed an anonymous tip received by the veterinary office. Previous attempts by authorities to inspect the cats were unsuccessful. However, during a recent inspection in mid-July, exacerbated by the summer heat and the overwhelming odor of cat urine, officials gained forced entry into the apartment.
