Rheinsberg Opera Festival Sees Strong Visitor Numbers, Exceeding Last Year's Total

The Rheinsberg Chamber Opera festival is experiencing a surge in popularity this summer, drawing impressive crowds and exceeding previous attendance records. Organizers have welcomed 7,028 visitors to Rheinsberg so far, a figure that already surpasses the total attendance of 8,306 for the entire 2025 season. This success indicates a growing appreciation for the opera's programming.

The festival's current season still has its main highlight to come: the performance of "Blaubart" in the castle courtyard. This production holds particular significance as it aligns with the celebration of Prince Heinrich of Prussia's 300th birthday. Prince Heinrich himself was present at the 1789 premiere of Grétry's "Blaubart" in Paris, shortly before the French Revolution reshaped Europe.

Cultural Minister Manja Schüle highlighted the opera's relevance to the anniversary year, noting its status as a rediscovery. She also pointed out the historical resonance of the opera's premiere year, 1789, a time when French émigrés found refuge in Rheinsberg, linking the artistic event to broader historical shifts. The strong visitor numbers suggest the festival is successfully engaging audiences with both historical and contemporary operatic works.
