Richard Carapaz confirms participation in 2026 Vuelta a España

Ecuadorian cycling star Richard Carapaz has officially announced his participation in the 2026 Vuelta a España, ending speculation about his late-season Grand Tour schedule. The announcement, made via his Instagram account, confirms that the "Locomotora del Carchi" will return to the Spanish race for his seventh career appearance.

Carapaz holds a special connection with the Vuelta a España, having competed in it more times than any other Grand Tour. His six previous participations in Spain contrast with five in the Tour de France and four in the Giro d'Italia. This race has been the setting for some of his most significant achievements, including a second-place finish in the general classification in 2020 and a fourth-place in 2024.

Beyond the sporting challenge, Carapaz expressed the unique significance of racing in Spain, particularly the presence of Ecuadorian fans. He highlighted the emotional connection of sharing the experience with fellow expatriates who, like him, sought better opportunities abroad.
