Rieke Diah Pitaloka Urges Strengthening LPSK Amid Rising Human Trafficking Cases

Indonesian lawmaker Rieke Diah Pitaloka has stressed the urgent need to bolster the human resources within the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK). This call comes in response to the alarming increase in human trafficking and violence against women and children across the country.

During a working visit to the LPSK representative office in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) on Wednesday, Pitaloka emphasized the vital and increasingly crucial role of LPSK. She noted that this role is further amplified by the recent enactment of Law No. 3 of 2026. "The current rates of violence and human trafficking cases are very high. LPSK is very important, especially with the new law, Law No. 3 of 2026. I believe strengthening LPSK is crucial," she stated.

Pitaloka expressed concern over the stark reality on the ground, noting the disproportionately small number of LPSK staff compared to the surge in reported cases. The LPSK office in NTT, responsible for serving the entire province, has only six employees. Nationally, the agency's total staff count stands at a mere 500 individuals. This situation is deemed highly inadequate given the escalating number of cases.

She urged the DPR's Commission XIII to address this issue promptly. Pitaloka also advocated for enhanced collaboration among various stakeholders, including regional governments and the police, to effectively tackle these crimes. She specifically proposed strengthening police structures with a dedicated directorate for human trafficking and violence against women and children, extending from the provincial police level down to the district police.
