Rising fuel costs burden families

Rising fuel costs are creating significant financial pressure on Fijian families and businesses, exacerbating the cost of living crisis. Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources Filimoni Vosarogo acknowledged the strain on low-income earners and sole breadwinners.

"We think that, in good faith, any of these issues can be discussed, and discussed openly and frankly," Vosarogo stated. "We can put everything on the table, including the numbers and forecasts, and we are able to dissect the figures and projections, bring all the players together and agree on what the foreseeable future may look like, particularly if there should be an increase."

The government is actively engaging with key stakeholders to identify measures that can alleviate these economic burdens. Vosarogo highlighted the importance of the revived Tripartite Forum, which brings together representatives from workers, employers, and the government. This platform facilitates open dialogue on critical issues like wages and the escalating cost of living. The government remains committed to finding a balance that serves the interests of both workers and industries, ensuring that all decisions are sustainable and mutually beneficial.
