River Plate releases list of players departing ahead of preseason

River Plate has officially announced the players who will be leaving the club as the team prepares for its preseason training. The club released a statement detailing the situation for each player and outlining the next steps.

The team begins its preseason on Wednesday, with the delegation scheduled to travel to Alicante, Spain, on Saturday, June 20. However, Paulo Díaz, Maximiliano Meza, Germán Pezzella, Fabricio Bustos, Alex Wioski, Maximiliano Salas, and Giuliano Galoppo will not be joining the European trip. These players are required to report for training on Monday, June 22.

Additionally, Ian Subiabre and Santiago Lencina will not participate in the preseason due to ongoing negotiations for their transfers to other clubs. The club's statement also addressed specific cases, noting that Kevin Castaño has been called up for the 2026 World Cup with the Colombian national team and will rejoin training upon his return.

Matías Galarza Fonda faces a similar situation if his purchase option is not exercised. Andrés Herrera's loan with Columbus Crew ends on June 30, and River Plate is in negotiations with the MLS club for a permanent transfer. The club also revealed that four players who are part of the traveling delegation are considered negotiable.
