Rivers, FG sign MoU to expand creative economy

The Federal Government and the Rivers State Government have formalized a partnership aimed at bolstering Nigeria's creative economy by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the Renewed Hope Cultural Project. This initiative, spearheaded by the Federal Government, seeks to significantly expand the sector's reach and impact across the nation.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State reaffirmed his administration's dedication to the swift realization of the Oyorokoto Beach Resort project during the MoU signing ceremony at the Government House in Port Harcourt. He pledged to ensure the resort's full development, positioning Rivers State as a premier tourism destination within Nigeria. This commitment aligns with the state's broader strategy over the past three years, which has seen substantial investment in the tourism sector to foster leisure activities, generate employment, and diversify the local economy.

We have invested in expanding the tourism sector of Rivers State. Some months ago, the project for the new Tourist Beach, which we embarked upon in partnership with Landmark, kicked off.

Governor Fubara highlighted ongoing developments, including a partnership with Landmark for a new Tourist Beach, with the first phase slated for unveiling by December. He noted that elements of the Renewed Hope Cultural Project resonate with his administration's existing plans, such as the Ngo-Atlantic Oyorokoto Road project. This infrastructure development is expected to open up the Andoni Local Government Area, showcasing the Oyorokoto Beach as one of the country's finest natural attractions, with wildlife like elephants and lions already being featured in promotional materials.

It is a project that will open up that axis of Rivers State. The Oyorokoto Beach is one of the best beaches in this country.

Emphasizing a holistic view of infrastructure, Fubara stated that development extends beyond roads and hospitals to encompass economies built on entertainment and relaxation. He drew parallels with global tourism powerhouses like the UAE and Qatar, suggesting that Rivers State aims to create its own version of these destinations, such as providing a "Dubai" or "Qatar" experience within the state for those seeking leisure and comfort.

The governor assured that Rivers State would not only sign the agreement but also ensure tangible progress within the next four months. He expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for selecting the state as a key partner in this project, underscoring a collaborative approach to achieving mutual goals. The partnership signifies a shared vision for leveraging cultural and tourism assets to drive economic growth and diversification.

If not for this crisis in Iran, the closest tourism destination that everybody yearns for is Dubai, to go there and enjoy. So what we are trying to do here is, if we can’t go to Dubai, let’s provide our own Dubai in Rivers State.
