Riverside market brings vibrancy to Hulu Terengganu village

A traditional riverside market, Pasar Pagi Bira Sungai, has brought new life to Kampung Pantai Ali in Hulu Terengganu. Operating every Friday from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m., the market has quickly gained popularity among locals and visitors alike, offering a relaxed atmosphere by the river.

Zulkifli Ismail, the market's founder, was inspired by the concept of Pasar Pendekar in Kelantan, which successfully draws crowds. He adapted this idea for Kampung Pantai Ali not only to create a unique market experience but also to provide income-generating opportunities for local residents.

Currently, 63 vendors participate in the market, with approximately half being villagers who had no prior business experience. They are seizing the chance to supplement their income and contribute to the market's vibrant weekly atmosphere. Zulkifli noted that the market charges a modest maintenance fee of RM5.

A key attraction is the variety of fresh produce, particularly freshwater fish such as patin, baung, and tilapia, sourced directly from local fish farms. Visitors are drawn to the market not only for the freshness but also for the more affordable prices compared to other locations. The response has been so encouraging that vendors are inquiring about available stalls.
