Road in Tangerang Dismantled Again Just 12 Hours After Concrete Was Poured

A road in Tangerang was torn up again only 12 hours after workers poured concrete, after cracks appeared and officials found that the work failed to meet technical specifications.

The work on Jalan Raya Gardu Tanah Merah in Kayu Agung village, Sepatan district, became a focus of public attention after videos showed heavy equipment breaking apart the newly poured section. The footage spread on social media and prompted reactions from residents.

Ardiansyah Putra, head of the roads division at the Tangerang Regency Public Works and Water Resources Agency, confirmed that the damaged section had previously undergone reconstruction. The project covers a 369-meter stretch, seven meters wide, with concrete 30 centimeters thick. In the initial stage, the contractor poured a 135-meter segment that was 3.5 meters wide.

The dismantling was carried out because the road did not meet specifications after an inspection. Cracks had already appeared just 12 hours after the concrete was poured, and the examination found that the concrete did not meet the required specifications.

Ardiansyah said an inspection found that the concrete did not meet the required specifications. Under the project budget documents, the concrete must reach a compressive strength of 45 MPa and a flexural strength of 4.5 MPa within seven days of pouring. Because the work failed to meet those requirements, the contractor must remove the defective section and pour it again.

“Dismantling and repouring the road are the full responsibility of the provider or vendor, without imposing additional costs on the government or the public,” Ardiansyah said. The repair is targeted for completion within seven days after the new pour, while the Tangerang regency government continues to monitor the work.
