Robert Lewandowski Can't Stop Chicago Fire's Losing Streak in Second Defeat

Chicago Fire suffered their second defeat in as many games since Robert Lewandowski's arrival, falling to New York City FC. Despite Lewandowski's presence, the team struggled to find its form, conceding three goals before halftime.

Lewandowski, who had expressed that it would take time to build chemistry with his new teammates and that he was not yet in optimal form, was surprisingly left on the bench by coach Gregg Berhalter. However, with Chicago Fire trailing 1-2 after 30 minutes, cameras captured the Polish striker warming up. The team conceded a third goal before the break, prompting Berhalter to bring Lewandowski onto the field immediately after halftime.

New York City FC has proven to be a difficult opponent for Chicago Fire, who have not beaten them since 2021. The stadium featured prominent Etihad advertising, highlighting the club's ownership ties to the United Arab Emirates, similar to Manchester City. Despite the presence of Polish fans waving flags and holding autograph requests, Lewandowski had limited opportunities. He managed to win a free kick and nearly connected with a cross for a goal, but was otherwise closely marked or not receiving passes from his teammates.
