Roberto Martínez in Talks to Become Netherlands Coach After Other Negotiations Fail

Roberto Martínez, the former manager of the Portuguese national football team, is reportedly in talks with the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) to take over as the head coach of the Netherlands national team. This development comes after the KNVB's previous attempts to secure a coach reportedly failed.

According to Dutch media outlet De Telegraaf, representatives from the KNVB have held meetings with the 53-year-old Spanish coach. Martínez recently led Portugal in the 2022 World Cup and has prior experience managing the Belgian national team, guiding them to a third-place finish in the 2018 World Cup.

The KNVB has been actively seeking a new permanent head coach following the departure of Louis van Gaal after the World Cup. Reports suggest that negotiations with other prominent figures, including Erik ten Hag and Arne Slot, did not result in an agreement.

Martínez's potential appointment would bring a coach with significant international experience to the Dutch squad. His tenure with Portugal and Belgium has been marked by a focus on tactical organization and player development, qualities the KNVB may be looking to instill in their national team.
