The health issues began after the band's last tour in 2022, when Bon Jovi experienced significant vocal deterioration. Medical examinations revealed that one of his vocal cords had completely lost its function. He underwent "vocal cord medialization" surgery to repair the damaged cord. Bon Jovi expressed his shock at the diagnosis, stating, "I had never done anything to damage my voice throughout my life, I never went to extremes. I am an extremely trained vocalist and I have worked very hard on this for years, I have meticulously protected my voice. That's why when a doctor told me that one of my vocal cords had literally atrophied and lost its function, I was in complete shock, it was confusing."

Despite the surgery's success, uncertainty loomed about whether the legendary singer could ever perform live again. Bon Jovi himself admitted in a 2024 interview that he feared he might never tour again. However, through years of disciplined work, specialized vocal coaching, and learning to use his voice from scratch, he has made a remarkable comeback. "I have now fully recovered. Reaching the correct vocal form took much longer than I expected, but everything had to be perfect. Throughout the process, neither I nor my band ever lost hope," he stated.
