Romania offers monthly bonus to unemployed youth for securing jobs

Romania is launching a new incentive program to combat its high rate of young people not in education, employment, or training (NEET). Unemployed individuals aged 16 to 30 can receive a monthly bonus of up to 1,250 lei (approximately $280) on top of their salary if they secure full-time, permanent employment.

The program, approved by the government, aims to tackle the significant challenge of youth inactivity. Eurostat data reveals that 19% of Romanians aged 15 to 29 are neither working nor studying, nearly double the European average. This initiative offers a stability bonus of 1,000 lei per month for the first year of employment, increasing to 1,250 lei in the second year, provided the job is maintained.

In a bid to streamline the process, applications and necessary documents will be submitted online through employment agencies. The government also plans to extend similar support measures to unemployed individuals up to 50 years old. Authorities hope this program will encourage labor market integration and help alleviate workforce shortages.
