Romania's PM-designate delays government formation, citing need for careful decisions

Romania's prime minister-designate Adrian Veștea is taking a deliberate approach to forming the next government, vowing to continue negotiations with political parties until a comprehensive governing program and a complete cabinet are finalized.

I will use responsibly the time I have available to build a solid agreement on the governing program, one that will support the relaunch of the economy, the increase of Romanians' standard of living, and the restoration of budgetary balance.

Veștea stated on Facebook that his process will be characterized by "seriousness and balance," rejecting "improvisations, excesses, and decisions dictated by emotion or haste." He stressed that this is not the time for hasty choices under pressure. Instead, he will responsibly use his available time to build a robust agreement for governance.

The prime minister-designate acknowledged the public's expectations for solutions and results following over a month and a half of political instability. However, he underscored the significance of the decisions being made for Romania's future direction. "Every decision must be analyzed responsibly and made in Romania's long-term interest," Veștea explained, justifying the delay in submitting the ministerial list and governing program to Parliament.

Romanians want solutions and results, but we are discussing the future Government of Romania and the direction the country will take in the coming years.

"I am committed to continuing the dialogue and negotiations with political parties until the governing program and the government team are finalized. No improvisations. No excesses. No decisions dictated by emotion or haste. With seriousness and balance – the values that will define the act of governance I will lead with the support and confidence of Parliament," Veștea added in his message.
