Romanian football's image tarnishes abroad: Superliga ranks poorly among world's strongest leagues

Romanian football's reputation abroad is deteriorating, with the Superliga ranked a mere 38th among the world's top 50 leagues, according to an analysis by Football Insider. This low ranking places it behind championships in Japan and Colombia, and even behind several second-tier European leagues like England's Championship, Italy's Serie B, and Germany's Bundesliga 2.

The decline is evident in the consistent underperformance of Romanian clubs in European competitions. Universitatea Craiova's recent elimination in the second preliminary round of the Champions League means Romania has once again missed the chance to have a team in the main phase of Europe's premier club competition. Currently, only four Romanian teams remain involved in European cups: Universitatea Craiova will continue in the Europa League, while FCSB, Universitatea Cluj, and CFR Cluj are competing for spots in the Conference League's main phase.

Analysts point to a clear downward trend in Romanian football over recent years.
