Romanian Foreign Minister meets US Congress delegation, calls for stronger Eastern Flank presence

Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu held discussions in Bucharest with a delegation from the United States Congress, led by Mike Rogers, Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee. The meeting, part of an ongoing political dialogue between Romanian and American officials, focused on strengthening the strategic partnership between the two nations.

A key topic was the reinforcement of the US military presence in Romania and across NATO's Eastern Flank. Both sides discussed the ongoing dialogue with SACEUR, General Alexus Grynkewich, and the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Romania reiterated its commitment to being a responsible and trusted ally for the US in the Black Sea region.

Țoiu highlighted Romania's proactive measures to achieve a "stronger Europe within a stronger NATO," emphasizing the necessity of close transatlantic coordination. The Minister also reviewed recent security dynamics and Romania's focus on investments in strategic infrastructure and enhancing national defense capabilities. The potential for Romania to host production, leveraging its skilled workforce and industrial tradition, was also presented.

The delegation included Representative Eric Sorensen and Ambassador Darryl Nirenberg. This meeting follows a previous bilateral discussion in Washington in July 2026. Romania has also joined the State Department's MECEA exchange program this year, and US congressional staff teams are invited for a working visit in October.
