Romanian Government Appeals Court Decision Suspending Key Resolutions

The Romanian government has announced it will appeal a Bucharest Court of Appeal decision that suspended six government resolutions, actions the ruling party claims will negatively affect vital sectors. The government argues the suspensions will halt essential measures for people with disabilities, international transplant registries, and progress on the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

In an official statement, the Executive asserted that blocking these normative acts will prevent the implementation of measures deemed critical. "Important measures for the protection of young people and adults with disabilities, for the access of Romanian patients to international transplant registries, as well as measures in other areas will not be able to enter into force in the coming period after the Bucharest Court of Appeal suspended six decisions adopted by the Government at the request of the PSD," the statement read.

The government further warned that the suspension of certain regulations is directly linked to fulfilling Romania's commitments under the PNRR. "Failure to adopt these entails not meeting targets and milestones and, implicitly, the loss of funds from the PNRR," the government specified. One suspended resolution concerns a support program for adults with severe disabilities leaving residential centers, who were set to receive housing and financial aid for home setup starting in 2027.

Another suspended measure involves Romania's contribution to the FOEDUS – European Organ Exchange platform, crucial for international organ exchange. The government cautioned that this could jeopardize Romanian patients' access to this European mechanism, potentially limiting their chances of receiving transplants through international cooperation. The government emphasized that for some patients, transplantation is the only effective treatment option.
