Romanian Hotel Guests Suffer Ceiling Collapse, Power Outage, and Elevator Traps

A holiday for dozens of tourists at a hotel in Saturn, Romania, turned into a nightmare after a section of the ceiling collapsed during breakfast, injuring a woman. The incident was followed by a power outage that left guests without essential services and some trapped in elevators.

The ceiling fell around 11:00 AM. We were at the table having breakfast and the ceiling fell on a family. It hit them, broke their heads. Cleaning was done and then the police came. There was a hole in the ceiling.

According to Raisa Manea, a guest at the hotel, the ceiling section fell around 11:00 AM, striking a family. She described the fallen material as plasterboard and noted that a hole remained in the ceiling after the debris was cleared and police arrived. The injured woman, aged 57, was transported to the hospital. Police confirmed the incident and have opened a criminal case for culpable bodily harm.

We also got stuck in the elevator. At 3:00 PM I went to my room to change, and luckily my daughter went down the stairs. I got stuck in the elevator between the 1st and 2nd floors. I pressed the alarm, I started shouting. And my daughter started shouting too.

Further complicating the guests' stay, the hotel lost power around 3:00 PM on Saturday, with the backup generator reportedly failing to start. Manea recounted being trapped in an elevator between the first and second floors for a period, emphasizing the danger as the elevator's display indicated a different floor than her actual location. Another guest was also reportedly trapped in a different elevator. The situation highlights significant safety and operational failures at the hotel, leaving guests distressed and seeking recourse.

If the power had come on then, I might not be here now. The elevator indicated I was stuck on the 4th floor, even though I was staying on the 3rd floor. My daughter was running from floor to floor trying to find me.
