Romanian PM Honors Nadia Comăneci, Government Approves 122 Million Lei Investment for Sports Base

Romanian Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan honored gymnastics legend Nadia Comăneci, emphasizing her significant contributions to Romania's global image and her inspiring career. The meeting at the Victoria Palace, also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Tánczos Barna and Romanian Olympic Committee President Mihai Covaliu, focused on upcoming events celebrating Comăneci's achievements.

These events include a gala on May 29 at the Palace of Parliament and another on May 31 in Onești, both part of the "Nadia Comăneci Year." This year marks the 50th anniversary of her perfect 10.00 score at the Montreal Olympics. Bolojan expressed gratitude for Comăneci's role as an ambassador for Romania, stating her name is synonymous with performance, achieved through hard work, seriousness, and talent.

In a significant gesture, the Romanian government has approved an investment exceeding 122 million lei to modernize and expand the sports base at the Municipal Sports Club in Onești, where Comăneci honed her skills. This project, proposed by the Ministry of Development, Public Works, and Administration, aims to honor her legacy. Bolojan, who previously served as interim head of state, had also recommended awarding Comăneci the "Star of Romania," the nation's highest distinction.
