Romanian President: Government 'should not have fallen'; proposes Adrian Veștea to end political crisis

Romania's President Nicușor Dan has expressed his view that the country's government should not have collapsed, highlighting the ongoing political deadlock six weeks after its fall. He noted that no single political party has successfully coalesced enough support to form a clear parliamentary majority.

We are six weeks after the government fell. Obviously, it should not have fallen and I don't want to go back to the discussion about who was to blame, because everyone has an opinion about that.

Dan believes that a government headed by Adrian Veștea presents the most viable path forward. He described Veștea as possessing qualities that make him suitable for the role, including experience with budgets and European funds, and a political acumen that avoids creating further crises. The President emphasized that Veștea's electoral success demonstrates public confidence.

The current political instability originated from the no-confidence vote against Ilie Bolojan's government, initiated by the PSD and AUR parties. This motion passed with a record number of votes in Romania's Parliament. Following the vote, President Dan urged for calm, asserting Romania's stability and the continued functioning of its institutions.
