Romanian Prosecutors Confirm Russian-Made Drone Shot Down by F-16 Jet

Romanian prosecutors have confirmed that a drone downed by a Romanian F-16 fighter jet was of Russian origin. The aircraft, identified as a Shahed-type drone, entered Romanian airspace on Friday and was intercepted over an unpopulated area near Padina in Buzău county.

The General Prosecutor's Office announced that a criminal investigation has been initiated to ascertain all details surrounding the incident. The drone was detected by the National Defense Ministry's radars and was continuously monitored as it traversed Romanian airspace along a route from Sulina to Brăila, Fetești, and then Buzău.

According to investigators, the drone was shot down by a Romanian F-16 pilot. The Prosecutor's Office at the Ploiești Court of Appeal stated that no human lives or property were endangered during the interception. The incident raises questions about airspace security and the potential for incursions by foreign aerial vehicles.
