Ronald Fuentes Ruled Out Resigning from Unión Española After 3-0 Loss to Antofagasta

Unión Española suffered a decisive 3-0 defeat against Deportes Antofagasta, a result that ignited the frustration of the club's supporters. Fans present at the Estadio Santa Laura vocally demanded the resignation of head coach Ronald Fuentes, whose recent record includes only one win in the last five matches in the Ascenso League.

Despite the mounting pressure, Fuentes firmly rejected the idea of stepping down. "I understand the fan, I have always understood them. It's part of what corresponds to me as a coach. I am the footballing responsible for the team, I assume it as appropriate, but I am not going to resign at all," he stated during a press conference.

Fuentes, a participant in the 1998 World Cup, remains optimistic about the team's potential. He believes they can still achieve their goal of reaching the promotion playoffs. "I feel that we can be in those playoff positions and we are going to work for that. Obviously with concern, not calm, but knowing that we are going to turn this adverse situation around," he added.

The coach emphasized that there are still many games left in the championship. He reiterated that the team's objective is to qualify for the Liguilla (playoff tournament), either through the direct promotion spot, which he admits is now distant, or by winning the playoff. "As long as we have mathematical options, we are going to keep fighting for them," Fuentes concluded, expressing belief in the team's capabilities if they can rediscover their past form.
