Rotary and Rotaract clubs donate $2-million worth of equipment to Mandeville Regional Hospital

Mandeville Regional Hospital has received a significant boost to its medical capabilities thanks to a generous donation from the Rotary and Rotaract clubs of Mandeville. The Jamaica Observer reports that the service clubs have gifted equipment valued at approximately $2 million, which will directly enhance the hospital's obstetrics and gynaecology department. Among the crucial items is a colposcopy machine, a vital tool for screening cervical cancer, a disease that remains a significant health concern in Jamaica. Dr. Everton McIntosh, Senior Medical Officer at the hospital, highlighted the critical need for such equipment, noting that April is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month. He stressed that early detection through screening, like Pap smears and colposcopy, is paramount, as late-stage diagnoses often limit treatment options. The donation also includes 10 Doppler machines, essential for monitoring the well-being of unborn babies during pregnancy. This act of community support underscores the collaborative effort between local organizations and healthcare providers to improve health outcomes for the people of Manchester and surrounding areas.
