Royal Air Maroc establishes academy to train aviation technicians

Royal Air Maroc (RAM) is set to launch a new subsidiary company, "Moroccan Academy of Aeronautics SA," as part of its strategic plan to bolster the aviation sector's technical workforce. The company, established with an initial capital of 300,000 dirhams, received government approval through a decree published in the Official Gazette.

The primary objective of this new academy is to manage, develop, and operate a comprehensive training system for aircraft maintenance, airline operations, and aviation support. The initiative aims to significantly increase the number of qualified technicians, targeting more than 550 trained professionals annually in aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul. This expansion is driven by the increasing needs of the aviation sector and RAM's ambitious fleet expansion plan, which projects reaching 200 aircraft by 2037.

The establishment of the academy is a direct result of two key agreements signed in December 2025. These agreements focus on advancing vocational training within the aviation and airport logistics sectors, as well as organizing and managing this new entity. The project also supports the objectives outlined in RAM's program contract for the period leading up to 2037, particularly concerning the growth of aircraft maintenance activities, enhanced technical support, and the expansion of the company's fleet.

According to the decree, the license for this operation is valid for one year from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette. The implementation and publication of the decree fall under the responsibility of the Minister of Economy and Finance. The government's decision follows the approval of the board of directors of Royal Air Maroc on May 7, 2026, and consultations with the National Agency for the Strategic Management of State Holdings and Monitoring the Performance of Public Institutions and Enterprises.

RAM's ambitious strategic plan includes quadrupling its fleet to 200 aircraft by 2037, increasing annual passenger numbers to 31.6 million, and expanding its international network to 143 destinations. The plan also aims to solidify Mohammed V International Airport's position as a key continental and intercontinental hub. The creation of the Moroccan Academy of Aeronautics is a crucial step in ensuring the airline has the skilled personnel necessary to support this significant growth.
