RSP to Appoint Leadership in Phases After Shah Camp Misses Deadline

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is set to proceed with initial leadership appointments, despite a missed deadline from Prime Minister Balendra Shah's faction. Chairman Rabi Lamichhane will nominate a limited number of central committee members and office bearers, with the party's central committee scheduled to meet on Wednesday.

The central committee meeting will make the first phase of nominations for central committee members and office bearers. It is not possible to say exactly how many will be nominated. That is why nominations have been included in the meeting agenda.

Organizational management and nominations are key agendas for the upcoming meeting. Under the party's statute, the chairman can nominate 51 central committee members, subject to endorsement by the committee. General Secretary Bipin Acharya confirmed that the first phase of appointments would occur, though the exact number remains undecided.

As of Monday evening, we have not finalised our recommendations for the central committee and office-bearer positions. The prime minister has also been occupied with government responsibilities.

Party leaders had initially hoped to finalize all appointments after the first general convention in late June. However, leaders close to Shah indicated that his side had not finalized its recommendations, citing the prime minister's government responsibilities and ongoing discussions. They suggested that not all 51 positions would be filled at once, aiming for nominations that align with the spirit of integration.

The issue of integration has not yet been settled. There has not been sufficient dialogue. Therefore, the chairman believes that appointing some central committee members and office bearers now will allow the party's work to move forward.

Lamichhane reportedly believes that proceeding with partial appointments will allow the party's work to advance, as consultations on representation and integrating different groups are still underway. The meeting will also cover a review of the general convention, revisions to organizational procedures, and future campaigns.
