Rúben Amorim appointed new coach of AC Milan

Portuguese coach Rúben Amorim has officially taken the helm at AC Milan, signing a contract that will keep him at the helm until 2029. He inherits the managerial position previously held by Massimiliano Allegri, whose tenure ended after a season plagued by unsatisfactory results and a shake-up in the club's executive structure.

Amorim's arrival signals a significant moment of restructuring for the historic Italian club. Following a disappointing season that saw Milan miss out on Champions League qualification, the club has seen several key figures depart, including CEO Giorgio Furlani, sporting director Igli Tare, and technical director Geoffrey Moncada. Amorim faces the considerable challenge of rebuilding one of Italy's most decorated football clubs.

With a tactical approach centered on ball possession, aggressive high pressing after losing possession, and effective use of wing-backs, Amorim is expected to implement a dynamic style of play at Milan. Players like Alexis Saelemaekers and Davide Bartesaghi could become crucial components of his system, particularly in leveraging play through the flanks.

The 41-year-old coach brings a wealth of experience to Milan. His playing career included stints with Belenenses, Benfica, and Braga, as well as appearances for the Portuguese national team. His coaching journey began with Casa Pia, followed by Braga B and the senior Braga team. He then moved to Sporting CP in March 2020, where he achieved significant success, winning two league titles, two Portuguese Cups, and one Super Cup, re-establishing the club as a top contender.

Amorim's previous coaching experience in a major European league includes a stint at Manchester United, which began in November 2024. However, his time in the Premier League was cut short after fourteen months due to poor performance. Milan is now betting on his proven ability to revitalize teams and guide them back to success.
