Rubio: Iran Forced to Seek Deal Amid Military Weakness

Iranian military capabilities have diminished, forcing Tehran to the negotiating table for a denuclearization agreement, according to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. He told Fox News that Iranian officials are now "ready, and in some cases appear eager, to reach a denuclearization agreement."

Rubio's remarks followed an announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump that Washington, in agreement with Israel, would halt planned new attacks on the condition that a swift deal is reached. This suggests a potential shift in U.S. strategy toward Iran, emphasizing diplomatic resolution over further military escalation.

Meanwhile, Iranian lawmaker Hasan Gashghavi, a spokesperson for the National Security Committee, confirmed that diplomatic efforts are ongoing to revive a memorandum of understanding signed in mid-June. This agreement, aimed at establishing a lasting ceasefire, had been jeopardized by continued bombing campaigns. The core of the dispute reportedly remains the Strait of Hormuz, a vital oil transport route over which Tehran seeks to maintain control.
