Rumors of Chen Chien-hsien Withholding Support for KMT Candidate Called 'Stitching Cracks'

Allegations that former Deputy Magistrate Chen Chien-hsien would not support the Kuomintang (KMT) candidate for Hsinchu mayor, Wu Hsu-chih, and would instead endorse Taiwan People's Party (TPP) candidate Chiu Chen-yuan have been dismissed as baseless rumors. Wu Hsu-chih, the KMT's nominee, characterized these claims as "stitching cracks" designed to sabotage the unity between the KMT and TPP.

Wu explained that Chen Chien-hsien has always been a respected elder figure, and their communication has remained consistent. He believes the rumors are intentionally spread by those seeking to disrupt the KMT-TPP alliance. Wu acknowledged that the KMT's internal primary election earlier in the year had caused some division within the party. He stated that he had personally clarified with Chen Chien-hsien that he never spoke ill of him during the primary.

Regarding Chiu Chen-yuan's meeting with Chen Chien-hsien, Wu described it as a normal interaction, given Chen's respected status. Wu himself has frequently sought Chen's advice since the primary, particularly on future development plans for the Hsinchu West District, where Chen has roots. Wu asserted that the claims of Chen supporting Chiu over him are a deliberate misrepresentation of facts, akin to "stitching cracks" as described by KMT Chairperson Cheng Li-wen.

Wu expressed his unwillingness to speculate on who is behind these disruptive actions but stressed that they undeniably harm the potential collaboration between the KMT and TPP in the upcoming elections.
