Rural Development Administration Opens 'Reclaimed Land Agriculture Research Center' in Saemangeum

South Korea has established a new research center dedicated to advancing agriculture on reclaimed land. The Rural Development Administration officially opened its 'Reclaimed Land Agriculture Research Center' in Saemangeum, a significant step towards optimizing farming in challenging coastal environments.

The facility is substantial, covering a total of 100 hectares. This area encompasses five research and auxiliary buildings, alongside extensive experimental fields. The center's primary mission is to develop innovative cultivation techniques and management strategies specifically designed to overcome the unique environmental constraints of reclaimed land. These challenges include high salinity levels and waterlogging, common issues in such areas.

Researchers at the center will focus on crop cultivation technologies, soil and water quality management, and precise water and nutrient control. Furthermore, the facility will explore the integration of advanced technologies like drones, satellites, and autonomous agricultural machinery to enhance efficiency and productivity in farming operations on reclaimed territories.
