Russell takes pole for Catalan Grand Prix

George Russell of Mercedes claimed pole position for the Formula One Catalan Grand Prix, the seventh race of the season. The 28-year-old British driver achieved his tenth career pole and third of the year at the Montmeló circuit.

Russell's fastest lap in the final qualifying round was 1 minute, 14.679 seconds. He finished 0.064 seconds ahead of compatriot and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, who will start second. Andrea Kimi Antonelli, Russell's teammate, secured third place, while Lando Norris of McLaren, the most recent race winner, qualified fourth.

Further down the grid, Red Bull drivers Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar will start fifth and sixth, respectively. Franco Colapinto of Argentina will begin in thirteenth place, and Mexico's Sergio Pérez will start nineteenth. Other notable placements include Oscar Piastri in seventh and Charles Leclerc in tenth.
