Russell Wins Canadian Sprint Race After Intense Duel with Mercedes Teammate

Mercedes drivers Kimi Antonelli and George Russell engaged in a fierce, uncompromising duel during the Canadian Grand Prix sprint race, ultimately allowing George Russell to claim victory. The intense battle unfolded around the sixth lap.

Under the pressure of Russell's aggressive driving, Antonelli lost control of his car and veered off the track. The young Italian driver's struggles continued shortly after when he went wide again, cutting across a grass area and losing momentum. This provided an opening for McLaren's Lando Norris, who promptly moved past Antonelli to secure second place.

Despite the close proximity of the competitors, Russell managed to maintain his lead over Norris, crossing the finish line first after 23 laps. Antonelli recovered to finish third, ahead of Norris's teammate, Oscar Piastri. Antonelli briefly overtook Norris on the final lap but again went off track, losing the position.

Later on Saturday, qualification for the main Grand Prix event is scheduled. This race is the fifth of the season and is set to begin Sunday at 10 p.m. Danish time. Antonelli currently leads the drivers' World Championship standings, ahead of Russell, with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc in third.
