Russia commits to boosting energy cooperation with ASEAN

Russia reaffirmed its commitment to deepening cooperation with ASEAN across all energy sources during a summit in Kazan celebrating 35 years of partnership. The meeting brought together Russian President Vladimir Putin and leaders from ASEAN member states.

Russia has always supported ASEAN's central role and believes that sustainable regional stability can only be achieved through cooperative approaches that take into account the legitimate interests of all states, regardless of their size or level of development.

Russian Ambassador to ASEAN Evgeny Zagaynov highlighted Russia's support for ASEAN's central role in fostering a comprehensive regional order amidst increasing geopolitical competition. He stated that sustainable regional stability can only be achieved through cooperative approaches that consider the legitimate interests of all nations. Zagaynov described ASEAN as a crucial pillar of the emerging multipolar world and an indispensable partner for peace and security in the Asia-Pacific and Eurasia.

The summit, held on June 18, served as an opportunity to review past achievements and set new milestones for the ASEAN-Russia Strategic Partnership. He expressed expectations that the Kazan summit would provide further impetus to deepen relations in future-oriented sectors.
