Russia Confirms Frigate Fired Warning Shots at Yacht in English Channel

Russia's Ministry of Defense confirmed that one of its frigates fired warning shots at a British yacht in the English Channel. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, approximately 20 nautical miles south of the Isle of Wight, in international waters.

According to Russian authorities, the yacht 'Bright Future,' flying the British flag, was on a collision course with the frigate Admiral Grigorovich. The frigate's crew reportedly attempted to communicate with the yacht via radio and used flares and sound signals to warn it away. However, the yacht allegedly continued its course, reducing the distance to about 150 meters.

In response, the frigate's captain ordered warning shots fired with small arms ahead of the yacht's path. Russia maintains that the British vessel immediately changed course and departed the area. The Ministry of Defense stated that the frigate acted in full compliance with international navigation rules.

The British Ministry of Defense acknowledged the warning shots but noted that communication attempts had preceded them. British sources downplayed the severity, clarifying that the shots were not aimed at the vessel and posed no immediate threat to its crew.
