Russia extends gasoline export ban until year-end

Russia has decided to prolong its ban on gasoline exports through the end of 2026, a move aimed at stabilizing the domestic market amidst ongoing challenges. The decision was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Alexandr Novak.

"We decided in a meeting to extend the ban on gasoline exports for both producers and non-producers. That is, it will be extended until the end of the year," Novak told Russian media. This policy seeks to prevent Russian refineries from experiencing difficulties due to an oversupply of fuel and a potential decrease in their refining capacity.

While the gasoline export ban will remain in place, Novak indicated that the prohibition on diesel exports would be lifted "as the market recovers." Russia has faced fuel shortages this summer, partly attributed to Ukrainian attacks targeting its refineries. The government has implemented various measures to address the situation, including the export bans.

Authorities noted that recent repairs to some refineries have helped increase fuel supplies to the domestic market and stabilize the overall situation. The extension of the gasoline export ban underscores the government's focus on ensuring sufficient fuel availability within Russia.
