Russia's Massive Air Attack Kills Eight in Ukraine; Poland Scrambles Jets

Russia unleashed a large-scale air assault on Ukraine overnight, employing dozens of missiles and hundreds of drones to strike multiple cities. Ukrainian authorities reported that at least eight people, including two children, lost their lives, with over ten others injured in the widespread attacks. Air raid alerts were sounded nationwide, and explosions were heard in Kyiv.

The most devastating strike occurred in Krivoi Rog, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's hometown. A ballistic missile hit a residential building, killing six people, including two girls aged 5 and 12. Two additional fatalities were reported in Kyiv and the Poltava region. In Lviv, western Ukraine, several individuals were injured, and residential areas sustained significant damage.

The bombardments coincided with President Zelenskyy's return from the United States, where he reportedly secured approval for licenses to produce Patriot missiles.

Zelenskyy had previously warned of an impending large-scale Russian air offensive and reiterated calls for Western allies to expedite the delivery of air defense systems. Separately, Russian authorities reported a fire at an online retailer's warehouse in Penza, attributed to a Ukrainian drone attack, which led to the evacuation of approximately 200 people and one injury.
