Russia strikes Kyiv airport as ceasefire is called off, Witkoff and Kushner visit Moscow

A planned lull in fighting has been thrown into doubt after Russia struck airports in Kyiv and Boryspil. Ukraine’s armed forces said they would not observe the ceasefire that had been announced for several days.

The pause was linked to the visit of U.S. President’s envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff. Their arrival in the region unfolded as the reported strikes removed the prospect of a quiet period at the front.

Kushner and Witkoff landed in Moscow on Saturday. They were also expected to travel to Kyiv, placing their diplomatic mission against the backdrop of renewed Russian attacks and Ukraine’s decision not to honor the previously announced truce.
