Russia targets weapon factories across Europe, Western intelligence claims

A pattern of sabotage against Ukraine's military supply chains across NATO territory has emerged, with Western intelligence sources pointing to Russia as the orchestrator. These attacks, often targeting armament facilities, are designed to be deniable, employing local criminal elements to avoid direct confrontation with NATO.

Recent incidents include the detention of three Latvian nationals for an arson attack on a drone facility in Estonia, which supplies weapons to Ukraine. Estonia's Prime Minister Kristen Michal stated the incident is under investigation to confirm Russian involvement. This follows similar explosions at arms manufacturers in Italy and Bulgaria, and a fire at a Czech drone and thermal optic plant.

Lithuania also charged six individuals over an attempted arson at a factory supplying radio-wave scanners to Ukraine. A NATO official noted that Russia has intensified destabilization campaigns, including cyber attacks and sabotage, in an apparent effort to escalate tensions and deter support for Ukraine. The incidents highlight Russia's "hybrid war" strategy, aiming to disrupt Ukraine's military support without provoking a direct military response from the alliance.
